WARP: Team
Delta
WARP:
Team Delta is a four player collaborative space adventure
for 10-13 year-olds. We followed a themed entertainment model
in the development of WARP, taking inspiration from sources
such as Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean VR adventure and
Soarin' Over California.
In WARP, players enter the dome and enter into the cockpit
of the SS Harmony, a space ship that they will guide through
hazards to their goal.
The Player Roles
Each of the four players has a different role in the adventure:
The Pilot steers the ship, avoiding obstacles
using a dual X-Arcade joystick.
The Engineer uses a touchscreen interface
to manage power levels, put the ship into warp, call for
help, and control the status of the gunners tools.
The Gunners (Left and Right) use single
player X-Arcade sticks to control laser guns and robotic
grappling arms. They must ask the engineer to switch between
guns and grapples.
WARP Storyline
WARP has six distinct segments.
Launch - Once the players are
seated, they are addressed by a holographic scientist, who
tells them that they are to embark on a rescue mission to
bring medical supplies to the space station Barto IV which
is being overrun by a virus. The ship then rotates into the
launch tube and takes off.
Tutorial - Once in space, the
team is introduced to their interfaces and roles. They are
prompted to use all of their different abilities.
Warp - When the tutorial is
complete, the engineer is prompted to choose a warp tunnel
from a choice of a fast-but-dangerous blue tunnel or a slow-but-safe
green tunnel. Once in warp, the team must collaborate to catch
the warp crystals that power their ship.
Something Goes Horribly Wrong
- The ship is struck by either an asteroid or space junk (depending
on which warp tunnel they're in) and they exit warp with a
crash to find themselves in a field of dangerous objects.
The pilot must steer around the debris, while the gunners
shoot it out of the way. The engineer must constantly monitor
energy and be ready when the warp tunnel is back online.
Rescue - The team must survive
long enough to rebuild their warp capabilities or to send
out a distress signal. A short warp tunnel is opened which
transports the team to their final destination.
Landing at Barto IV - The team
can sit back and relax as their ship is guided in to land
at the space station, where the medicine is unloaded and put
to work. Roll credits.
