Week 1: Setup, Transformational Framework, and Client

We initiated this exciting project-semester with our first team member meeting, during which we discussed our backgrounds, skill sets, and questions for the project. We then selected Derek as our producer and scheduled the first meeting with our instructors, Dave and Brenda.

Meeting with the Instructors:

During the first meeting with Dave and Brenda, we had a better understanding of our topics, clients, and the most important thing, our goal for this project. To learn more about transformational games and figure out where to start, we put our focus on “The Transformational Framework”, a book written by Sabrina Culyba to guide teams during the design process of transformational experiences. As advised by Dave and Brenda, we also selected our transformational framework designer, Katherine.

A “Book Club” Meeting:

To discuss what we learned from the book and exchange ideas, we had a book club meeting on Friday afternoon. During the meeting, we combined the transformational framework with our topics on nuclear threat and came up with possible next steps. We then assigned individual research to each team member so that we can answer the questions raised by our framework.

The First Meeting with Our Client:

Near the end of the first week, we met with our client, Raul. We learned that our final product would be presented at the Game for Change festival, which would be an online conference with 20 – 40 guests. Raul also introduced us to the On the Morning You Wake project, which provided us with a great angle to view our topic. After this meeting, we were more clear about the client’s expectation.

Other logistics:

This week we scheduled for this semester our daily standup meeting, weekly instructor meeting, and weekly client meeting. We also created a team drive as well as a team calendar.
