Full Spectrum, A TechnoTheater Fest
A Spring 2003 ETC Production

The Interactive Theatre Initiative (ITI) is a 14 weeks long project at Carnegie Mellon University's Entertainment Technology Center. The goal of the ITI group is to create a piece that integrates technology as part of the theatrical experience, beyond using special effects.

This semester, the project is a join effort of the Ensemble Studio Theater and the Entertainment Technology Center. The goal is to showcase Virtual Meditation #1 at the Ensemble Studio Theater, along with a new theatrical piece written by Susan Kim and directed by Brenda Harger. On top of these two projects, we are also to create an experience for our audiecences using the physical space at the theater.

Ensemble Studio Theater
The Ensemble Studio Theatre is a not-for-profit developmental theatre founded in 1972 with two primary goals: to nurture individual theatre artists and to develop new American plays.

Alfred P. Sloan Foundation
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, a philanthropic nonprofit institution, was established in 1934 by Alfred Pritchard Sloan, Jr., then President and Chief Executive Officer of the General Motors Corporation. The Foundation's programs and interests fall into various areas, including Science and Technology, Standard of Living and Economics, Education and Careers in Science.

The First Light Festival
The Ensemble Studio Theatre/Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Science & Technology Project was inaugurated in 1998.The foundation is designed to stimulate artists to create credible and compelling work exploring the worlds of science and technology and to challenge the existing stereotypes of scientists and engineers in the popular imagination. Each season the EST/Sloan Project commissions and develops new works, and then presents the results, at varying levels of production, in a month-long festival called FIRST LIGHT.

The name of the festival comes from an astronmy term which. First Light menas when a new telescope is focused on the heavens for the first time, that particular moment is considered to be the first light. Symbolically, the festival represents opening up new visions and new opportunities for the exploration between scientists and artists, technology and theater.

Full Spectrum: A TechnoTheater Fest
Full Spectrum is ETC's production within the First Light Festival. Virtual Meditation #1 will be showcased in New York along with a New Work by Susan Kim, and other experimental projects to create a metaphoric journey experience emphasizing collaboration between technology and theatre throughout the Ensemble Studio Theatre.
