Week 5 – Feb 18, 2022

This week we focused on playtesting and iterating our activities . We went to West Liberty University on Monday, Feb 14 to playtest our activities with kids age K-8th grade. Then we iterated our activities based on the feedback and our observations. On Friday, Feb 18, we went to Marion Elementary School in Belle Vernon, PA to playtest again. On Wednesday, Feb 16, the team went to the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh for team bonding, and we had a great experience together.

Week 4 – Feb 11, 2022

This week we focused on preparing for the playtest that will happen next Monday at West Liberty University. We prepared 5 prototypes either with cardboard or with tablets. Our goal is to test and see how kids will react to the activities. We want to know whether they like them or not and whether they have a good understanding of each activity. On Friday, February 11, Deeplocal, a Pittsburgh based design agency, also came to the project room and shared their thoughts with the team.

Week 3 – Feb 4, 2022

This week we received lots of feedback from faculty. Some feedback is constructive and reminds us of the constraints that we have. We spent time discussing the problems we have with the current plan and revised it to something that is more in scope. We brought it up with our client, and together we came up with a better final goal — a proposal for a prototype that helps kids to explore the art and science of color. The team also brainstormed some new activities and did some initial hardware testing.

Week 2 – Jan 28, 2022

This week we spent most of our time researching and solidifying our ideas. Since the project kicked off, we have made a composition box, and we have received feedback from faculty and peers. We wanted to use their feedback as inspiration for further research. A lot of the discussion this week is around the question: what is the final product? To answer this question, the team has proposed several ideas, and eventually we narrowed them down to two and presented them to our client.

Week 1 – Jan 21, 2022

Hello everyone! We are team COLORIZE. We are a group of students from the Entertainment Technology Center at Carnegie Mellon University. In the following 14 weeks, we will be collaborating with faculty and students at West Liberty University to design and build a creative, educational and fun activity kit that will help students from kindergarten through lower elementary explore the art and science of color.
